Part I and II of my little series of ad reviews have been easier to write than the last one, the Ugly. Why? Well, it wasn’t difficult to find the bad ads; and the good ones also stood out quite easily. The one ad (yep, just one) I thought of as the Ugly one is by Alexander McQueen.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
How must it be like to be an Alexander McQueen ad? You have no choice than to feel like the ugly sister besides such outlandish, beautiful and impossibly intricate, complex and elaborate gowns. I guess that whatever you do, you won’t be able to do justice to the clothes. I’m actually not sure about these ads; I don’t think that they are failing, but still, something is missing here, I can’t quite pinpoint, what. Even though I find the use of black and white quite striking, I still would have loved to see the gowns’ colors. Edie Campbell is doing a great job behind the mask; she’s really giving me the creeps with that stare. So help me out here: What do you think about the campaign?

So, after posting the fashion video for Love, I just had to show you the covers (yep, there are multiple) for the glossy’s 5th anniversary issue. They are playful, colourful and fun with a not-so-serious attitude. The magazine pays homage to – who would have guessed it – Minnie Mouse; the Disney character is not only one of five cover girls, but is also featured on Love’s website in a very entertaining, interactive game. Well, it’s not really a game, the cursor is basically Minnie’s hand and you can go and grab  stuff. Oh, just go and see for yourself!
The mouse ears worn by the models have been made exclusively for the magazine by luxury brands such as Gucci, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton and Prada. Check out the video below to see them all.
Katie Grand, Love’s editor-in-chief, said that she was inspired by her Instagram feed: “As work began on this issue, that famous Herb Ritts shot of Madonna popped up on my Instagram feed, the one where she’s in bed wearing the Minnie Mouse ears. There was something about that look – knowing, but genuine, and genuinely sweet – that got me thinking. And I’ve always been a big fan of Minnie’s style and that polka-dot bow.”
Well, I just love Love’s covers! Take a look for yourself!
